The 2nd National Training on ” Case Proceedings by Single Judge “

The opening ceremony of the 2nd National training on ” Case Proceedings by Single Judge ” was launched yesterday by the People’s Supreme Court in Lao PDR (PSC) and the Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA). The training was co-chaired by Mr. Khampha Sengdara, President of the People’s Supreme Court in Lao PDR and Mr, Richard Philippart, President of ILSTA.

The Heads of Departments, Deputy Departments, Heads of the Supreme People’s Court and the President of the Central People’s Court attended the opening ceremony. The training was attended by 54 participants from provincial courts across the country. Mr. Khampha Sengdara, President of the People’s Supreme Court in Lao PDR stated that the objective of this training is to help single-judges to improve knowledge, skills and expertise at each stage of trial, including case research, writing judgments and trial proceedings in order to make the judgment expeditious, accurate, fair and uniform throughout the country.

Mr. Richard Phlilippart, President of ILSTA, added “ There is a huge responsibility on the Single Judges. Article 19 on the Criminal Procedure states, Judges shall be independent in considering cases. Therefore, integrity of the judges and judiciary is crucial and ILSTA will continue to provide support for this training and develop specific materials for single judges. ”
