Workshop on the Dissemination of the Law on Civil Servants and the Prevention of the Corruption

The Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor of the Lao PDR and ILSTA organised a workshop on the dissemination of the Law on Civil Servants and the prevention of the corruption in Vang Vieng from 1st to 3rd November.

The workshop gathered 70 prosecutors from 11 provinces, and comprised presentations by ILSTA experts, quizzes and practical case studies.

In his opening remarks Mr. Xaysana Khodphouthone, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Lao PDR, stated that tackling corruption is a priority for the Lao government and that civil servants have a vital role in this fight. Therefore the cooperation with international actors is highly important and the information exchange will boost the legal expertise of Lao prosecutors.

Director of ILSTA, John Connolly, said that the UNCAC review highlights the progress made by Lao PDR in the fight against corruption by adopting the Anti-Corruption Law in 2015, and the recommendations should serve as a milestone for building a robust legal framework, backed by strong enforcement.
