In the light of the appointment of the new People’s Prosecutor General of the Lao PDR, the Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance did a courtesy visit to the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor. The President of ILSTA, Mr Richard Philippart met with His Excellency Prosecutor General of the Lao PDR, Mr Xaysana Khotphouthone.
The discussions were focused on ILSTA’s cooperation with OSPP since 2016, since when we have organised over 120 workshops. Some of the milestones of our cooperation have been the technical support that ILSTA provided in the drafting of the law on MLA, which culminated in the adoption of the law last year. ILSTA has provided support in enhancing OSPP’s International cooperation and in particular, within ASEAN Prosecutor’s Network.
The success of ILSTA’s English for Law programme has been highlighted as well, as over 1000 civil servants have benefited from free English courses over the last years. Finally, the future ICP for 2021 – 2025 has been discussed and both parties agreed to continue the fruitful cooperation.
