Cooperation with the President of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office

ILSTA had the privilege of meeting H.E. Mr. Xaysana Khotphouthone, President of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office (OSPP) of Laos.

ILSTA and the OSPP have worked together as partners for over a decade, with support of the Government of Luxembourg.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress in ongoing technical assistance initiatives and to discuss future priorities, including support for AML/CFT compliance in alignment with the APG Mutual Evaluation. Key areas of collaboration include enhancing legal and prosecutorial capacities, inspections, fostering inter-agency coordination, and addressing transnational organised crime as other vital areas of joint cooperation. The dialogue also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, the importance of the ASEAN Prosecutor Entity/Body and also compliance with international AML/CFT standards, as the needs stemming from the 2023 APG AML/CFT Mutual Evaluation.

ILSTA remains steadfast in its commitment to assisting the OSPP through technical assistance, tailored training programmes, workshops, fostering regional cooperation and the development of practical resources such as legal training materials. A strong emphasis is placed on building institutional capacity and ensuring compliance with FATF requirements, contributing to Lao PDR’s progress in strengthening the rule of law and governance in line with international standards.

This meeting was followed by another session with the Vice President of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office, with discussions on areas of cooperation, new approaches, specific needs, and structural developments.
